A home consists not only of its rooms and its furniture, but also hundreds of details, big and small. Annika and Ulf Huett Nilsson have embarked on a journey of discovery across Sweden, from Gällivare in the north to Skanör in the south, encountering an inspiring array of all the personal details that create a home. Not only do the Huetts want to celebrate the little things in themselves, they also want to explore what makes a home familiar.
All too often, we are quick to throw out, replace, or rebuild, but our most beloved details usually stick around. That little item that creates a personal connection doesn't have to be new or expensive. It can be an inherited glass in its particular place in a cupboard, an old tap on a sink, a worn doorknob on a kitchen door, or a pattern on a curtain.
Annika and Ulf live together in Stockholm with their three small children. Annika is an illustrator and works for magazines, books, and in advertising, and makes murals and mosaics. She attracted considerable attention for her book Korsstygn på nytt sätt in 2007. Ulf has worked as a photographer since 1989. He works in Sweden and abroad. Their joint book on Swedish summer, Pergola, tombola, picknick, received the Utmärkt Svensk Form award when it came out in 2000.
Swedish Details is bilingual, with Swedish and English in the same edition.
